Students got into the spirit of Halloween by creating monsters out of basic shapes. Not only was this excellent cutting practice, it also allowed us to practice our shape vocabulary. We presented our monsters to the class, counting how many of various shapes we used in our artwork.
We began Halloween week with a field trip to the pumpkin patch. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make this event possible. One of the highlights for me was playing in the hay barn with the children.
We have been learning all about patterns in math. Students were asked to demonstrate their understanding of patterns by creating "pattern bats." We had many questions about bats, so Madame read us a nonfiction book about bats during circle time.
We learned several new songs for Halloween. We made a spider puppet and put on a little puppet show, singing “Araignée Gypsie.” I have video of this that I will share with you soon. Students were delighted to tell me that they knew this song in English already! Check out the songs under "les chansons" tab.
On Halloween morning, we had a costume parade through the halls of JQ. Students were very excited to show off their costumes and see what the "Big Kids" were wearing. I loved seeing everyone's costumes. Elsa is still a popular choice! We also played Halloween Bingo with our Big Buddies, which is a fantastic way to reinforce all the vocabulary we have been learning. Thank you for taking the time to review the weekly vocabulary words at home. |
In the afternoon, we rotated through several centers with the help of amazing parent volunteers: Pin the Wart on the Witch, Mummy Wrap, Monster Bowling, Witch Hat Ring Toss, and a Pumpkin Relay. A GROS merci to everyone who volunteered their time or sent in a treat to share with the class! Our Halloween goûter was a highlight for all the children. |
I hope you had a safe and happy Halloween!
