Home Reading Program
Starting today until the end of the school year, students will participate in a home reading program.
The students will receive a new book every library book exchange day (Tuesday). This is in addition to the books they regularly take home from the library. The students must return the book every Tuesday in class. It is very important that the books are returned on time so that the students can read them at school to the class/their big buddies/myself, and so that I have the time to organize the redistribution.
Please take care of the books. They are not to be written, coloured or drawn on. Return the book in the home reading ziploc bag to protect it.
The books are from the series Collection Sourire. An audio recording of each book is available on the website under the tab “Home Reading Program”.
Here is a list of activities your child can do with your assistance:
- find: front/back of the book and first page. Where do you read after the first page/line?
- look at and discuss the pictures in the book
- listen to the audio recording and follow along with finger
- pause the audio recording after each page and repeat
- focus on punctuation (when it’s included): voice intonation, breathe at the end of each sentence.
- read the book to you, a sibling, a stuffed animal, or on his/her own
The series Collection Sourire was created for beginning readers at the emergent level.
The home reading program should be enjoyable and fun!
